Days of Ashura
Muharram is first month of the Islamic year. It is Sunnah to fast either on the 9th and 10th or the 10th and 11th of Muharram. The announced dates are,

09 Muharram 1438 - Monday 10th October 2016

10 Muharram 1438 - Tuesday 11th October 2016

11 Muharram 1438 - Wednesday 12th October 2016

Abu Qatadah Al-Ansari (RadiAllahu anhu) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah (the 9th of Dhul Hijjah). He replied, "Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year.” He was also asked about fasting on the day of Ashura (the 10th of Muharram). He replied, “Fasting on the day of Ashura is an expiation for the preceding year.” (Muslim)

Narrated Ibn `Abbas (RadiAllahu anhu): “I never saw the Prophet (Peace be upon him) seeking to fast on a day more (preferable to him) than this day, the day of 'Ashura', or this month, i.e. the month of Ramadan.” (Bukhari
